International Conference in Memory of Prof. Abubakr Hussein

He is a PhD holder in Finance and Marketing, graduated at Humboldt University of Berlin in Germany, and an MSc degree in Marketing from the University of Khartoum – Sudan, and a BSc (Honours), Class I, from the University of Khartoum. He also served as the Marketing Research Coordinator at the Livestock Exports Promotion Studies Institute, University of Khartoum. He used to work as an International Consultant and Trainer in the field of Inclusive Development, Traditional and Islamic Finance, Investment, Marketing, and Trade with the EU, DFID, World Bank, United Nations Organizations, African Union and the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development (AAAID) in countries including: Mauritania, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Lebanon and Syria. He participated in many studies and consultations and has many research studies published in scientific and global and regional periodicals. Has a great practical experience in the field of sustainable Development studies, design and evaluation of development and investment projects, microfinance, small and medium enterprises.

The memory of a distinguished Sudanese economist will be honoured at this international conference. The conference will commemorate the remarkable contribution of Professor Abubakr Hussein, who died on 3 May 2021, at the age of 59. The conference will be organised remotely via video conference by Sudan Knowledge (SK) and the World Association for Sustainable Development (WASD) from London with participants from all-over the world particularly Sudan connecting from homes/offices. This multi-disciplinary conference aims to provide friends, colleagues and students of Prof. Abubakr the opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences from all over the world on any relevant subject close to Prof. Abubakr key research areas (finance, economics, sustainable development, research and development). There are various levels of contribution at the conference ranging from 2-3 mins personal reflections from friends and relatives; 4-6 mins statements from former work colleagues and students and 7-10 mins paper presentations from selected scholars. WASD is also planning to publish special issues focusing on the conference theme and encourage participants to propose papers and sessions that will be of interest to a diverse audience. Selected papers will be included in the International Journal of Sudan Research (IJSR) and the World Journal of Science, Technology and Sustainable Development (WJSTSD).

The conference will feature many distinguished keynote speakers speaking about the contribution that agricultural research makes to Sudan’s efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) . The conference will also bring together international experts (students, researchers, practitioners, policy-makers, ordinary citizen) from the public and private sectors to share their memories of the remarkable contribution made by Prof. Abubakr and their strategic vision on the future of Sudan to achieve a sustainable and inclusive SD. The conference will analyse the status quo of the agricultural development strategies in Sudan and the current challenges facing the country to achieve Agenda 2030 as well as the different dimensions and perspectives of the likely future opportunities for Sudan particularly after the USA lifting its economic sanctions from Sudan.

UN Agenda 2030 and SDGs

The conference aims to discuss various key research areas from the wide range of Professor Abubakr contribution such as finance, polices, research and development strategies that will help and ensure Sudan, after 30 years seriously off-track from all international development goals and targets to achieve the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SD) and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) In doing so, the conference will also examine the recent impact of coronavirus pandemic global lockdown on Sudan’s efforts to achieve the UN 17 SDGs of the 2030 Agenda for SD. More specifically, the conference aims to discuss and explore various emerging approaches and different ways which can contribute to enhance and support the implementation of Agenda 2030 and the 17 SDGs in Sudan. For all countries across the world particularly DCs to succeed in the post Covid-19 era, particularly Sudan, all youth and women must be equipped with all necessary skills and capabilities to mange and adapt to future challenges. We therefore encourage the participation of youth and women in the conference and we are keen to make their voices heard and consequently enabling the decision makers to consider those views and ideas in their big decisions. It is hoped that during the conferences new perspectives on how these various efforts can be improved to better serve Sudan to achieve the UN Agenda 2030 and SDGs. Finally, the conference also aim to learn lessons from the successful communities and countries across the world.
