CORONAVIRUS: the Strategic Role of Diaspora in the  Management of Pandemic and Achieve Agenda 2030

As a result of the global coronavirus pandemic, for the first time since its inception the Diaspora Annual Conference of the World Association for Sustainable Development (WASD) International Diaspora Initiative (Sudan Knowledge) will be organised remotely via video conference technologies. In doing so, WASD/SK will use the latest technology in video conferencing from London with participants from all-over the world connecting from homes.

Coronavirus Pandemic

The aim of this conference is to ensure that all Diaspora groups are involved in all the development strategies and policies that impact on the various efforts in their countries in post Covid-19 pandemic and help their countries achieve the  United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SD) and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)  The conference objective is to explore the impact of coronavirus pandemic on the global efforts to achieve the UN 17 SDGs of the 2030 Agenda for SD. More specifically, the conference aims to discuss and explore various approaches and different ways planned by governments which can contribute to enhance and support the implementation of Agenda 2030 after the coronavirus pandemic across the world.

This multi-disciplinary conference is part of our Diaspora Conference Series aims to provide the participants the opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences from all over the world on major global issues; the emphasis is on the importance of evidence-based planning to overcome the challenges facing their countries of origin efforts to achieve a sustainable future. This exciting conference will bring together international experts and high level International Diaspora (students, researchers, practitioners, policy-makers, ordinary citizen) from the public and private sectors to share their strategic vision on the critical situation in post Covid-19 Pandemic and how the Diaspora can contribute to help their countries of origin achieve a sustainable and inclusive SD. The conference will analyse the status quo of Covid-19 and the current challenges facing the world to achieve Agenda 2030 as well as the different dimensions and perspectives of the likely future challenges and the changing global paradigms post Covid-19.

For all countries across the world particularly DCs to succeed in the post Covid-19 era, all youth must be equipped with all necessary skills and capabilities to mange and adapt to future challenges. We therefore encourage the participation of youth in the debate and we are keen to make their voices heard and consequently enabling the decision makers to consider those views and ideas in their big decisions.

It is hoped that the conferences will be a good opportunity for all Diaspora to reflect on their knowledge and experience for their various countries of origin efforts to achieve SD. New perspectives on how these can be improved to better serve their goals will be developed. The conference also aim to learn lessons from the successful communities across the world.
