Abstract: The study focused on analysing the phenomenon of inflation in Sudan during (2012-2021), with the objective to answer the question pertained to the definition and nature of this problem in order to determine its root causes and suggest effective remedies for them. To realize this, the study puts forth a hypothesis indicating that inflation in Sudan is a contrived phenomenon caused by direct governmental intervention with policies and economic decisions and not due to natural reasons stemming out of normal interaction between components of market forces (demand /supply). The study used descriptive, analytical and historical methods depending on data from secondary sources supplemented with researcher's observations. The year 2012 was considered as a base year to compare the changes in the prices of the selected commodities that took place in the subsequent years due to the impact of policies and decisions carried out during the stated period. Finally, one of the important findings ascertained by the study is that inflation in Sudan is a contrived phenomenon caused by liberalization decisions that have been implemented by the government during the study period. Therefore, the study suggested the abolishment of liberalization policy and freezing its related decisions as much as possible on the ground of its proved failure and negative implications in terms of sustained increments in rates of inflation leading  to economic instability and difficulty in obtaining the basic needs of decent living. Hence, the liberalization policy needs to be substituted with a model of social economy stemming out  of real nationalisim backed up by social  values  in order to take a firm decision of self-reliance to moblise fully the national local  resources for sustained  increments in production and productivity in terms of quantities, qualities and varieties,  widely in various fields for realisation of self-sufficiency and attainment of comprehensive sustainable development to fulfil the necessity of social welfare for all in the shortest possible period of time.
